DELIVERING VALUE TO YOUR BUSINESS

How SoDoTo can improve user adoption of your Dynamics ERP solution

Dynamics 365 Partners involved in ERP delivery often become complacent about the impact of the changes on the organisation.

This is because partner organisations are several degrees removed from the direct impact and also because they are delivering multiple projects in parallel. For a Dynamics 365 partner, this combines to de-sensitise the consultant from the impact on the people who will be impacted.

It was working as Head of ERP at large multi-national Dynamics AX end user and seeing first-hand how daunting a set of completely changed processes are to new users that really made this strike home for me.

From the process owners to the end users, there had been very little hands on experience in the run up to go-live and this left them unsure of how to complete their processes and fearful of making mistakes.

This experience has led Inciper to a different way of thinking, and as with most good ideas we looked to a technique that has been used successfully in other industries.

Our RAPID approach focuses on delivering value through an agile, iterative implementation that focuses on continual outcome-based improvement.

RAPID by it’s very nature is flexible. For the right organisations we adapt this to include the SoDoTo (See One, Do One, Teach One) technique. Whilst not suitable for all, we feel many are well placed to adopt this variation.

It ensures your knowledgeable project and wider teams are trained and comfortable in operational processes. Offering a cost effective and assured delivery.

SoDoTo (See One, Do One, Teach One)

This is a technique of teaching and learning new skills and good practices. It focuses on:

  • Initial direct observation of tasks (See One), followed by;
  • Hands-on practical experience performing the tasks (Do One – with support from mentor) and finally;
  • Teaching how to complete the tasks to others (Teach One).

This approach has been successfully used across a wide range of practical industries as an effective means to teach technical skills or tasks to large volumes of students. It has been widely used within engineering, law enforcement, and medical fields. SoDoTo is also used frequently in field exercises in preparation for crisis situations.

You would never expect a surgeon to perform an operation without seeing it first, and then completing it under supervision.

See One

Within SODOTO “See One” is often incorrectly considered to mean watching a solitary example.

The “See One” cycle includes lessons from our team to ensure you are familiar with the required setup and processing activities.

This cycle is considered done when you have understood not only what you need to do but why you need to do it and are ready for practical experience.

Do One

In the “Do One” cycle, you apply the lessons you have learnt through our team showing you both setup and processing activities into hands on practical applications.

You will perform the tasks, under supervision of our team. You will develop your skills through direct hands on experience and validation of your activities by your peers and our team.

Teach One

During the “Teach One” cycle, you use your cumulative learning and experience and transfer this knowledge by teaching others in how to both setup and process within the solution.

This teaching of your new skills both reinforces the knowledge and helps you develop toward mastery.

This allows you to ensure the user community is trained and the solution is tested effectively before deployment.

“The use of the innovative SoDoTo technique is delivering an exceptionally fast paced deployment. Through early access our process leads have become very comfortable with the solution and are confident in key processes and excited to use the solution”
