DELIVERING VALUE TO YOUR BUSINESS

Are you considering a Dynamics 365 managed services provider?

There are many reasons why companies choose their managed services provider – while cost and ITIL compliance are important, you also need to think about the following key factors as well:

1. Experienced staff

The best people in managed services are those who have been out on projects getting to understand all aspects of a product set. Depending on the product you use, it can be easy for a partner to get certified by intense ‘cramming’ training courses. This does not give their staff an in-depth knowledge of the system and is best avoided. Managed services providers will rarely give you this detail, so make sure you ask about it.

2. Managed services, not incident support

Did you ever wonder when ‘support’ changed to ‘managed services’? It’s because there is more to a business partner than just being there if something goes wrong. Your chosen managed services provider should be able to provide a range of services as well as fixing bugs. This will include training and ad-hoc ‘how-to’ assistance. Technically, they will help with monitoring your environment. For your solution, they will also proactively look at the software release roadmap and advise you on useful changes.

3. Tailored offering

Each business is different and has needs for managed services which vary, even from those of their nearest rivals. You should find a provider who can flex their offering to your specific needs, not one that wants to push all its clients on to the same deal to suit their capability. Once you have agreed on the scope of the services, they should document it in a service catalogue - ask to see an example.

4. Regular service reviews

It’s important to keep on top of your incident queue, checking it often with your managed services team. This should also be a chance to talk about what parts of the service aren’t going so well for you and to adjust how you work as a team so that improves in future. You should be having these meetings every quarter at the very least. If you have a high incident volume, consider meeting more often.

5. Dedicated account manager

You want to have a named person that you can talk to about all elements of your managed services, not a different one each time. This allows you to form a relationship with a person who understands your business. Make sure that your provider can give you this dedicated individual.
