Role Management Enhancements including license Auditing & Usage Reporting

Role management, license auditing, enhanced role audit trails, and security configuration versioning play a crucial role in managing privileged users and temporary role assignments.

These tools provide detailed reports on license usage for cost optimisation, user activity, and license consumption while also identifying segregation of duties violations. By ensuring proper oversight and compliance, they help optimise costs and improve resource allocation, enhancing overall security and operational efficiency.

Microsoft has made available in preview improvements in tracking changes to security configurations, providing better version control and audit trails for security settings and hinted of more to come.

Features & improvements – User Governance

User Security Governance Overview

The update enhances privileged account management, allowing administrators to:

  • Instantly revoke access for privileged users
  • Better manage and automate temporary role assignments
  • Enforce stricter security policies
  • Design process-based security roles
  • Privileged User Management
  • Segregation of Duties & Separation of privileges continuous monitoring
  • Duty subtraction function
  • Security audit trail

New reports added with license indicators by

  • Role
  • Duty
  • Privilege
  • Entry points

This feature reduces security risks and ensures that only authorised personnel can access sensitive data.

Segregation of Duties Violations

Stronger security controls now help organisations identify and prevent segregation of duties (SoD) conflicts. This ensures compliance by preventing a single user from holding conflicting permissions that could lead to fraud or policy violations.
